Another busy weekend on the border for
volunteers of CHD. Sometimes I’m not sure which is more
stressful, dealing with potential terrorists, drug dealers and
illegals or dealing with the media. No fewer than four video
crews followed us around during last week’s patrols. Film
students from Southern Illinois University and Ithaca College
in New York were here for the second time working on
documentaries. We also had the HBO documentary crew here
again--they were here last year and still nothing has come from
it. We’re sure the editors don’t like what they
see--the truth about how dangerous the border situation really
is.
It’s amazing how agenda-corrupt the
mainstream popular media is. Over and over we get the big boys
of corrupt media like ABC news, NBC news, CNN, 60 Minutes,
Newsweek magazine. They all have been here looking for racist
vigilantes which they never seem to find. What they do find are
drug dealers, OTM’s and hundreds of illegals needing
life-saving water because they are being systematically
cleansed from Mexico by Vicente Fox.
Their stories never seem to see the light
of day; I suppose the truth is not something they are
interested in. Yet, the GOP fascists like John McCain want to
censor folks like Mike Moore. They certainly have been
successful in censoring the truth about the border, so why not
the truth surrounding the situation in Iraq.
We are not sure what Border Patrol is
doing; they must be overwhelmed. We do know it took three
calls and two and a half hours for them to respond to
five illegal entrants we found near the San Pedro River on
Friday night. The group of three men and two women had no
water; we provided the life saving liquid and chatted with them
while waiting for the proper authorities to arrive. We learned
they were just coming for work; they told us they feel like
nobody likes them or wants them. I asked them why Vicente
Fox does not help them. “He doesn’t like people
with dark skin in our country,” they told us;
“Besides, we can only make $4 for a full day’s work
in Mexico. Here we can make $4 an hour, and that’s much
better. It’s so hard to get in now,” said the
leader of the group. He told us this had been the eighth time
he had been caught. We told them not to try again--Migra is
everywhere as well as citizen patrols. I told him to come
legally and we would help him get a job. He said it’s too
hard to come legal and easier to come illegally. He would try
another spot tomorrow night.

As Border Patrol loaded them into the
truck he joked that he would see us again tomorrow;
little did he know his words would come true.
The next night, Saturday, on the very same
trail at almost the very same time, we encountered another
group of 10 illegals. As we lit them up with our powerful
lights--there he was again leading a larger group! This time I
told him I did not like his lying to us: he turned out to be
the coyote guide.
“I told you I would be back,”
he said.
“I told you I would catch you
too,” I said.
This time Border Patrol was not so kind
when they learned he was smuggling human cargo.
